FOOTLITE MUSICALS announces open auditions for JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT, the Young Adults Production for the 2021 – 2022 season. With the reopening of Footlite in Summer 2021, Footlite will continue to closely follow updates from the CDC and our own state government regarding the status of COVID-19. Each audition, rehearsal and performance will continue to adhere to all mandates and recommendations as we do our part to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.

The staff is seeking an ethnically diverse cast of young adults between the ages of 18 to 26.* You must be at least a Spring 2021 graduating high school senior to audition. The staff will also be auditioning children ages 5 to 10. It is possible that two choirs of children will be cast to perform in alternating performances.

Auditions will be by appointment only in an effort to keep all auditioners, staff, and volunteers safe and socially distanced. Children’s auditions will occur between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 8th. Adult auditions will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 8th and at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 9th. All auditions will take place at Hedback Community Theater, home of Footlite Musicals, at 1847 North Alabama Street.

To make an audition appointment, please e-mail footliteproducer@gmail.com or call 317.363.0263 to be assigned an audition time. Audition time slots are first come, first served; requests for specific audition time slots cannot be accommodated. If you have a conflict with the audition dates and/or times, please contact the above e-mail ASAP to make alternative arrangements.

Please come to the audition prepared with no more than a verse and chorus from a Broadway musical other than JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT. An accompanist will be provided; please bring sheet music in the correct key. Adults should be prepared to read from the script and bring clothes/shoes to dance. Children need only to be prepared to sing and participate in light movement.

A free dance audition workshop will be offered on Thursday, May 6th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Footlite Musicals. Weather permitting, the workshop will be held outside.

Rehearsals will begin mid-May and will be in the evening during the week, with some rehearsals on Saturdays and Sundays. No rehearsals on Fridays. Production dates are June 25, 26, 27; July 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, 11.

*Due to COVID-19 and the cancellation of our 2020/2021 season, we are giving our young adults who would have otherwise “aged out” (i.e., turned 26 years old) of the upcoming Young Adults Production an opportunity to audition.

Told entirely through song with the help of a main character Narrator, the musical follows preferred son Joseph. After being sold into slavery by his brothers, he ingratiates himself with Egyptian noble Potiphar, but ends up in jail after refusing the amorous advances of Potiphar’s wife. While imprisoned, Joseph discovers his ability to interpret dreams, and he soon finds himself in front of the mighty but troubled, Elvis-inspired, Pharaoh. Joseph’s solution to Egypt’s famine elevates him to Pharaoh’s right-hand man and reunites him with his family.
