SHORT SYNOPSIS

Cady Heron may have grown up on an African savanna, but nothing prepared her for the wild and vicious ways of her strange new home: suburban Illinois. How will this naïve newbie rise to the top of the popularity pecking order? By taking on The Plastics, a trio of lionized frenemies led by the charming but ruthless Regina George. But when Cady and her friends devise a “Revenge Party” to end Regina’s reign, she learns the hard way that you can’t cross a queen bee without getting stung. Book by Tina Fey, Original Lyrics by Nell Benjamin, and Original Music by Jeff Richmond. Adapted from Fey’s hit 2004 film, Mean Girls was nominated for a staggering 12 Tony Awards.

CHARACTERS

CADY HERON (she/her) – A new junior at North Shore High School, Cady grew up in rural Africa and was homeschooled by her wildlife biologist parents. She is unprepared for American high school, but she is warm, bright, and strong – and great at math. Strong singer, actor, mover.

  • Vocal Range – G2-E5

(Please consider singing: “It Roars”)

JANIS SARKISIAN (she/her) – With her best friend Damian, Janis narrates throughout the show. An artistic rebel, Janis is not afraid to be weird, march to the beat of her own drum, or make others uncomfortable. Strong singer with comedic timing. Mover.

  • Ethnicity – Any
  • Vocal Range – A3-D5

(Please consider singing: “I’d Rather Be Me”)

DAMIAN HUBBARD (he/him) – Janis’s loyal best friend and comedic anchor of the show. He is smart, witty, and confident and occasionally serves as the show’s narrator. “Too gay to function.” Strong singer, actor, dancer.

REGINA GEORGE (she/her) – Regina is the undisputed Queen Bee of North Shore High School, and she knows it. She’s also the leader of a clique called The Plastics. • Vocal Range – Ab3-Eb5

(Please consider singing: “World Burn”)

GRETCHEN WIENERS (she/her) – One of the Plastics, Gretchen is Regina’s stressed-out second-in-command. As much as Regina appears not to care what people think, Gretchen cares very much, and she’s especially paranoid when it comes to Regina. Strong singer, actor, mover.

  • Ethnicity – Any
  • Vocal Range – G2-E5

(Please consider singing: “What’s Wrong With Me”)

KAREN SMITH (she/her) – The third member of the Plastics. Although her intellect and personality never had a chance to develop, Karen is essentially kind, fun, adorable, relaxed, and a generous laugher. And arguably, the nicest member of the Plastics. While Karen’s lack of intelligence is a running joke throughout the show, she sees the other girls more clearly than most people and is the most in touch of the three. Strong singer, actor, dancer.

  • Heron – Cady’s out of touch mom who can’t understand why her daughter is devolving before her eyes.
  • Norbury – Cady’s homeroom and calculus teacher, and she oversees the Mathletes. Though she is a bit jaded and more than a little sarcastic, Ms. Norbury sees the real Cady and encourages her to be true to herself, and to be her smartest self.
  • George – Regina’s “cool mom.” She’s desperate to look young and feel like one of the teens. She’s also desperate for Regina not to repeat her mistakes.
